Faculty with regular appointments at The University of Iowa usually do not require an additional or supplementary appointment to teach courses offered through Continuing Education during the regular academic year. Faculty may teach courses through Continuing Education as part of their regular teaching load, or on an overload basis for extra compensation.

Instructors who are not regularly appointed faculty require an academic appointment to teach through Continuing Education. These appointments for adjunct or visiting faculty, or for graduate teaching assistants, are initiated by the sponsoring academic department and are approved by the appropriate collegiate and central administration officials. View further information about DCE faculty appointments.

Compensation for teaching courses through Continuing Education varies by college and department. Faculty should contact their departments for compensation information. Alternately, contact Assistant Dean Marlys Boote.
